Abstain
It's a verb. It means "restrain oneself from doing something [enjoyable]".
Let's use it in a few sentences.
a. You should abstain from alcohol/smoking.
b. She is abstaining from online shopping.
c. He abstains from non-vegetarian food.
The word, 'abstain', has another meaning.
If one abstains during a voting scenario, it means one formally declines to vote either for or against a proposal or motion.
For example,
